What Motherhood Asks of Us - Westchester Family Magazine

In this month's Westchester Family Magazine, I was invited to explore whether motherhood changed you? In my piece called, What Motherhood Asks of Us? I speak to the various ways becoming a mother is a journey of self-development.  I invert the focus from the influence of mothers on children, to one on how children shapes a mother's own growth and learning. Raising vulnerable others (animals, or aging parents included) teaches unwittingly about many of the core tenants of the world wisdom traditions: mindfulness, compassion, patience, trust, ego-death and paradox.  Many times what is asked of parents by their children may run counter to the larger culture that demands productivity and efficiency.
